Joanna (Woodcock) Legere is the self employed manager of Pure Bliss Salon and Spa in Fredericton, NB. and a wife and mother of two girls ages 15 and 3.
Joanna has been working hard at losing weight and getting healthy for months, and that’s when she found a lump in her left breast. Thinking it probably nothing serious, she went to her family Dr. , which led to a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy.
The diagnosis of Double Positive breast cancer, also in the nodes, has turned her world upside down. No one wants to hear the C word, and no one wants to go through chemo and surgery and hormone treatments etc. especially as a young mother.
Joanna’s surgeon, oncologist and cancer team are in Moncton. NB which is 110 miles ( 2 hours) away from her home.
She has already had an MRI, several biopsies, EKG, bone scan, body scan and a genetic test, to which results are pending.
Chemo treatments begin very soon, and her husband’s Blue Cross plan has a major cap on coverage.
She will receive 6 chemo treatments ... one every 21 days to shrink tumors, and then there will be major surgery.
She will lose her hair after the first treatment of chemo, so is looking to purchase a wig immediately.
All the trips to Moncton will also put a financial strain on this already stressful situation.
The stress of not being able to work much , or at all, weighs heavy on this young family’s minds.
