Jo Qualls Memorial & Funeral Expenses

My Mother-in-Law, Janelva (Jo) Qualls, passed peacefully at approximately 3am on November 20th surrounded by her husband, son, and daughter.

She is already missed. Today the house feels emptier, even as it is filled with her family sharing memories.

She was diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia on October 20th, and was in and out of the hospital for the first week.  She went to the ICU and spent almost a week on a C-Pap machine and a ventilator.  Jo came off the ventilator on November 8, breathing on her own, but the combined sicknesses had taken a terrible toll on her already fragile body.

It was decided that she would come home on November 16th no longer being COVID positive, and that with the help of hospice her family would care for her in her own home for her final days. It was a Monday, and her 71st Birthday. Erin, Ryan and Dan had decorated her room and there was celebration in the air.  She roused for that Monday afternoon, and ate and drank and laughed and joked. It was just the 4 of them, together again. She was downright sassy, "Vacation Mama" they called her.

After that gift of connection, she faded slowly over the next several days. Her children came and stayed from Tuesday night onward. The three of them spent the next 50 hours by her side as she labored to pass, dozing a few minutes at a time. It was a time of coming together, to join in helping her pass over into new life in the early morning hours of Friday morning November 20th.

We are deeply grieved she is gone. We are relieved that she is finally pain-free. These last years have been hard, very hard, as she has been more limited in mobility. As my wife so aptly wrote:

"She is finally, completely, foreverly, pain free. I can see her, her hair rich and long again. Her body strong and limber. Her eyes, filled with twinkle and spark. And her smile. Oh her smile."

With the Pandemic being what it is, we will do a non-traditional service and drive-thru visitation.  I will link to the viewing information so you can view the service online.

End of life costs are steep. The Funeral home costs here, the embalming, the casket, the transportation to Bethal Assembly for our service broadcast.  Then the transportation to Wichita, Kansas and burial plot and interment there, along with a headstone all adds up.

We estimate the costs to her husband, Pastor Dan Qualls, will be in the range of $12,500 without travel expenses to Kansas.  We welcome any help with these expenses. Dan is not destitute, by any means, but covering these expenses will allow him to grieve and remember, while reducing the burden and stress of these expenses.

We miss her terribly... we so wish we could all be together and celebrate her life with the traditional rituals and services. This pandemic has been brutal, not just in stealing the lives of so many loved ones, but also in separating us from one another.  Please come around Dan Qualls in this time, he has come alongside so many of us in our own times of loss and grief.

Thank you for doing what you are able.

Sincerly,
Aaron Campbell
(son-in-law)
