Limping Along With Lusty Leather

Donation protected
Greetings! leenie from Lusty Leather here, as many of you know Larry has been going through some pretty tough times lately. What you may not know is that this is more or less a continuation so to say. Larry had a stroke on 8/21/14 and things have not gotten back to normal since. Since that time he has had both rotator cuffs repaired, fallen twice (resulting in one of the torn rotator cuffs), 2 TIAs, a bilateral midline shift (from the stroke) and most recently a knee replacement. If the knee replacement had gone as planned perhaps I would not be writing this…

During surgery on 7/25 Larry went into A Fib, causing him to be sent to the Cardiac Care Unit instead of the unit they send post op ortho patients to.  During this time, for what ever reason, the Dr failed to leave a note on his chart that the knee should not be propped up but kept straight.  Each day when I walked into his room, his knee was propped up. As a result all his muscles tightened up and by time he reached Helen Hayes Rehab Hospital on 8/1 he could not put his heel to the floor or straighten his knee. The 3rd week into rehab (longer than anticipated) 8/16, Larry had a sharp pain in his abdomen, the Dr sent him to Nyack Hospital for a CAT scan and found that his colon had perforated. Due to being on a blood thinner that was not reversible with another injection the Dr decided to wait over night to see what would happen.  The morning found Larry had gotten worse and if they waited much more he could become septic, which could have been fatal. The surgery went well but left him weak and with a colostomy. ( Hopefully reversible in 3 months). On the 24th Larry went back to Helen Hayes Rehab to finish/continue his rehab. He finally came home on Sept 5th! He is still weak and has lost 27lbs, so more time is needed before he is able to cut leather.

We were on the verge of catching up before all this happened.  The plan was to get his knee done and have some down time to catch up and restock the shop. This did not happen! The lack of time in the shop and the many many medical bills have caused us to fall behind to the point where we need to ask for help.  Thank you all and Bless you for taking the time to read this.
