Gun Shot Victim- Freak Accident

On September 17th, my father in law was accidentally shot. He has just received his final surgery, but must remain out of work for another 3 months. He will be highly prone to infection for the next few weeks, so it is critical that all precautions are taken. With all of the surgeries, time away from work, supplies, and disability decreasing by the week, any donation is helpful. I am the daughter in law of some of the greatest people I have ever met! Unfortunately, these beautiful people have also seen a tremendous amount of tragedy in the year of 2014. My mother in law (MIL) has stage 2 diabetes. She began a journey of getting fit and lost a great deal of weight and felt wonderful. This created a domino effect and she had to have, what should have been, a simple foot surgery. That 1 surgery (in Feb. 2014) has turned into 5. As a diabetic, the surgery has caused many complications and slow healing. These surgeries have kept her from working and needing to survive on the 1 income from her husband, my father in law (FIL). This was sufficient at the time.

Then fate stepped in again and caused my husband, myself and our 2 children to need to move in. My husband has found work and it pays our bills, but does not leave much to contribute. I am still looking for employment. By now, it is September and times have been tough. Everyone has been squeezing by, but just barely.

The real tragedy came on September 17, 2014. We were all awoken by the sound of a gun shot. My FIL was getting ready for work as usual; 5:30 a.m., dressed, and heading out the door. He reached for his handgun (he has a permit to carry) and went to holster it...He then tripped on the exercise bike and clutched his gun tighter, as a reflex to hold it closer and more secure on his way down; He ended up pulling the trigger as he went down. He shot himself in the abdomen, where the bullet then tumbled through his bladder, into his small intestines and exited through his rear. Hours of surgery brought him out alive. The hospital stay was 3 weeks spent in ICU Trauma and it was touch and go the entire time. He was put on a ventillator, had to have 3 units of blood transferred and 5 units of fluids, he developed pnuemonia, MRSA, and a few other issues were being battled. The trauma that his body suffered made many horrific possibilities come to life.

He is home now, but cannot work, still has healing to do, and still needs one more surgery, which will lead to more healing time and medical bills. His disability has just been cut by 50% and will be cut again when the long-term disability kicks in. I would also like to add that my MIL took care of one of her sons, diagnosed with MS, and his 4 children for many years. She lost that son 2 years ago to his battle with MS and has done many fundraisers in his honor and remembrance.

These are good, honest, and faithful people. This family is God-fearing and well aware that God has gotten us all this far. Now we need a little extra help to get us a little further.
