With the holiday season upon us, I found myself asking - what can I do in my community to spread a little joy?  The inspiration came from a social media post about a nursing home in Missouri that was asking people to adopt a senior for Christmas.  I immediately began calling local nursing homes and asking if they would be interested in doing something similar.  The collective (and sometimes tearful) answer was - YES!

COVID has impacted each and every one of us in so many different ways - but I think what we can all agree on is that isolation from family, friends, and our community has been one of the most difficult aspects of the pandemic.

The feeling of isolation is magnified for the nursing home population because they are at such a high risk of experiencing poor outcomes if a COVID outbreak were to occur.  This means little to no interaction with anyone other than facility employees.  This has been the status quo since March.

The point of this fundraiser is to help fulfill as many Christmas wish list items for as many nursing home residents possible.  I want our seniors to know that we are here and that we care.  Let’s spread some joy in a time where it is so desperately needed.  So far I have over one hundred residents that plan on making a Christmas wish list - the number continues to grow.  

If you would rather adopt a specific senior and choose the gifts yourself - that’s great!  Please contact me and I can help coordinate that.

Any left over funds will be used to treat nursing home staff to a meal delivery from a local restaurant.  They work so hard to keep our most vulnerable safe and happy - and are so deserving of our recognition.
