Please Help Roman Khramets Recover

Donation protected

Things have gone from bad to worse, and we have to increase our ask to a larger number.

Roman had what was considered a lethal heart attack (a "Widow-Maker," as the medical professionals call it) on December 4th in a local grocery market in Kirkland, Washington. If not for a kind soul who immediately rushed to his aid and performed CPR until help arrived, Roman would have been pronounced dead on the tile floor.

It took seven first responders to bring him back to consciousness. Because of the severity of the attack, Roman was incoherent and his heart was scrambled. The EMTs had to induce and intubate him before rushing him to the nearby emergency hospital where Roman would fight for his life over the following four days.

By the time Roman was released from the hospital, he had 2 stents placed into his arteries to keep his blood flowing and 4 prescriptions to keep his heart and body functioning. He is currently on very expensive blood thinner and blood pressure medications for the foreseeable future.

Roman was a contractor (Senior Software Engineer) at the time with no insurance and no sick leave. His job informed him that he could not take time off even though he had a major crisis that almost killed him. He returned to work as best he could in his understandably limited capacity -- when he should have been resting and staying in bed under the emergency cardiac surgeon's orders -- hoping to keep his job and be able to pay for the home he shares with his partner, Ruby, and their 9 rescue ferrets.

As of this week, his employer had terminated Roman with the excuse that he is not productive enough -- even though he just had a heart attack and has been putting every ounce of his energy's capacity working on the project. He has spent nights and days when he should have been resting, recovering, and healing working for his employer to keep his job.

We will be speaking with our attorney (also a friend) later this week to figure out what we can do to fight this. If you have any resources or want to contribute legally to our cause, please reach out to Ruby at [email redacted]

In the meantime, things have become emotionally and financially bleak. Roman is fighting major depression, and our family is facing the hardship of what this means for us financially since Roman has been the breadwinner for the last year and the sole reason we have been able to afford our home.

With the cost of Roman's insurance, medications, and all of the appointments, exams, labs, and special services he will need, we are overwhelmed -- over $1,500 per month. Ruby is trying to manage as much as she can for Roman to help alleviate the pressures and keep his mental health up.

If you would like to contribute directly (fewer fees and more anonymity), you can send through Venmo ( @RomanKhramets @RubyRayne ) or PayPal ( [email redacted] ). My PayPal cannot give tax receipts.

Donations are deeply meaningful and sharing this campaign with those who may want to help is wonderful. Thank you for being a light in our lives during this darkness. We are so grateful for you.

We have a trusted family friend, Dmitry, who is enabling us to offer a tax receipt for your contributions through his organization, Sparks of Daas, Inc., which is a 501c3. Please note, our other GoFundMe was organized by a close family friend, Lana. To avoid putting our update needs onto her, we created a new ask. You can contribute to and share either one, as they both reach Roman's family. Thank you so much for everything! You are all angels! <3
