As women and hopeful future leaders of our union we can't express enough how life changing it has been to attend the Women Build Nations conference.
As you may know, women make up just a small fraction of tradespeople. In California alone, women make up only 2% of electrical workers and 1% nationwide. Our local has been among the top in growth in membership for the last 5 years and yet we still have a long way to go in terms of the recruitment and retention of women.
It is often difficult for women to work in the trades because we repeatedly find that we are the only woman on the job site. So as you can imagine joining with 2,000 other tradeswomen from across the country at Women Build Nations is an incredibly empowering experience.
The knowledge, resources, and relationships we have acquired from attending various workshops help us stay in the trade, succeed on the job, and has inspired us to build more solidarity with our brothers and sisters to make life better for everyone.
We need to raise $500 to cover the cost of registration, plus around $1,800 in flights and transportation costs by Sept 30th! Any money we raise over this amount will go towards supporting women's causes in our local.
Thank you brothers and sisters of Local 11 and to all our friends and family who have supported us. We wouldn't be here without you!
