This gorgeous child is Soren Flook. Our super hero. On July 1, 2014, at 2 years old, Soren drowned and was revived after being without oxygen or a heartbeat for at least fifteen minutes. After being life flighted to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, his family was told that the prognosis was grim. He was reliant on a ventilator and wasn't responding to anything. His family prayed for miracles, and a week and a half later, this little fighter awakened to show us those beautiful blue eyes. He remained in the hospital and the rehab institute for over four months, with occasional setbacks occurring. Without going into exact detail, although he has by far exceeded the doctors' expectations, he does have remaining brain injury that has left him unable to stand, walk, talk, eat... He still has occasional seizures, posturing and storming episodes, although these are greatly reduced from what he had to endure early on. The family has been looking into additional ways to help Soren, in hopes that he will make a full recovery. Insurance companies don't pay for alternative therapy - they pay for what THEY think you need. Kids with brain injury tend to have a problem with muscle tone. Soren's muscle spasticity prevents him from being able to fully rehabilitate, and we believe that he is often in pain from the muscles being so tight much of the time. He needs regular massage therapy and chiropractic care. He also needs nearly constant physical therapy to give him the best shot at walking again. However, everything isn't covered by insurance, even though these things make a huge difference in his health. It is impossible to know exactly how much he will need and how long his needs will continue. As he grows and progresses, his needs will change. He will need different equipment and we will most likely find new things to try. He has made progress - he is now smiling, trying to talk - although so far, there are just misc. sounds, and the other day, we got a little laugh - he was laughing at his funny daddy! We want the progress to keep coming! Let's make sure that the money is there for whatever he needs. We need to give him the very best chance at a full recovery as possible....this is where we need your help. Please donate if at all possible, and please share with your friends, coworkers, family....imagine if this was your child. Heartbreaking to watch a child not be able to run and play....
In addition to asking for gofundme.com donations, Soren's team will be conducting various fundraising events, which we will post here as well.
(100% of the proceeds from all of these ventures (with the exception of the fee charged by gofundme.com) will be used solely for Soren's therapies and equipment needs. Every penny of the money collected will be accounted for and the treasurer of the account will provide a financial statement at any time to any of our supporters, plus will post a monthly statement on our facebook page (Super Soren Is Our Hero). Payments for therapies will be paid directly to the providers, from the account. Any questions, please contact our organizer, Mary Prence here on gofundme.com or through the Facebook page..Super Soren is Our Hero.
If you prefer to mail your donation, please send to: The Super Soren Fund, c/o 4745 Fifth Ave., Beaver Falls, PA 15010, or at any PNC bank.
We believe that Soren is a true miracle, and we believe that he has been granted many miracles, and we still await more. God bless you all for your time and generosity.
