My sister Debby Bradford is known by many in our community. Debby is a pleasant, outgoing gal with a sweet smile and a ready compliment for everyone she meets. Forty -seven years ago Debby was hit by a car at the age of 8. The community rallied around my family as my sister lay in a coma for three agonizing months. The prognosis was bleak. God blessed us with a miraculous outcome, but my sister was left with a Traumatic Brain Injury which affects her cognitive thinking, reasoning ability and short term memory.
Over the years, my parents have lovingly and unselfishly cared for Debby who is unable to live independently. Due to God’s blessings, the love of our close knit family, and caring friends, my sister has had a rich and happy life. Recently, due to many age related factors, her physical and mental health has deteriorated, and she is now in need of much greater care than ever before. Of course, my parents are also aging and in poor health.
The time has now come when our only choice is for Debby to live in a facility where she can receive special care. This has created a difficult financial burden on my parents and extended family. I have worked, in every way I can to assist my parents to advocate for Debby in regards to her medical treatment. I have also connected with all agencies and resources that will assist individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury and disabilities of Debby’s nature. Unfortunately, I have become a frustrated expert on the LACK of assistance available. The type of living facility Debby needs is, as you can imagine, astronomically expensive. Recently after much searching, I thought I had found the perfect place, however it turns out that the facility is unable to meet her extensive needs anymore. We must now move Debby into a different facility within the next 45 days.
This is why our family is reaching out for help. These facilities are extremely expensive, ranging from $3000 to 15,000 per month which insurance DOES NOT pay for. Please consider making a gift toward our goal of $50,000.The Bradford family would like to thank you for the love and support you have shown over the years.
