Bangor resident rushes into burning apartment building to save dog, warn neighbor during Market Street blaze

A fire tore through an apartment building early Wednesday morning in the first block of Market Street in Bangor.

No one was hurt, a Northampton County emergency dispatch shift supervisor said, in the fire which was reported at 4:33 a.m. at 26-28 Market, which is an attached building with three entrances on the ground level -- one of which had been a barber shop -- and two floors of residential above.

The second and third floors appeared fully involved. But, over time, firefighters focused on the third floor and roof, knocking down the flames, only for them to burst back through.

Just before 6 a.m., persistent pockets of flames kept firefighters busy. By 7 a.m., the fire was out in the front of the building, but there was still a small fire in the rear.

A police officer at the scene said officers kicked in the doors and got everyone out of the building.

FAMILIES EFFECTED/ RESIDENTS INVOLVED THAT ARE KNOWN AT THE MOMENT ARE; NORMAN SANTIAGO HIS THREE KIDS AND WIFE, CORY DEGROAT AND JOE RICCO SR. will update with further info.
