Jiva Studio Improvements!

Tax deductible

Jiva Performing Arts (Jiva) is celebrating our 15th anniversary in a brand new space in Long Island City, Queens. We are thrilled to have this new studio space for the creation of new work, rehearsals, and classes. As we grow into this new space we need to make some immediate capital improvements to fit the space to our needs.

Jiva’s studio is 642 square feet and is located at Arris Lofts, a building with 20 workspace units for artists and creatives. The building is located in the heart of LIC, in close proximity to public transportation (Court Square) and a vibrant community steps from MOMA PS21.

We need to complete an acoustic treatment project for our studio used for music and dance classes and rehearsals. The objective is to mitigate noise transference to neighboring studios and improve the sound quality within the studio We also need to upgrade the lighting and sound systems with the hope to eventually create a small black box theatre atmosphere for showcases and small performances.

The costs are as follows:
Acoustic treatment - sound transference mitigation plus acoustic paneling: $12,000
Light Equipment and installation: $6,000
Sound equipment: $2,000

Please help us raise these funds to develop a vibrant and creative space for the South Asian arts in NYC. All donations are tax-deductible - just in time for your year-end giving!

A little bit about Jiva:
Jiva Performing Arts (Jiva) mission is to develop and present new voices in the classical arts of India and increase appreciation and accessibility of these timeless arts for all communities. Bharatanatyam artist Sonali Skandan and Carnatic musician/composer Bala Skandan founded Jiva in 2007 in New York City. Jiva is composed of an all-female professional dance company Jiva Dance, Akshara Music Ensemble, and a School that provides comprehensive training for beginners through professionals.

From its inception 15 years ago, Jiva has been committed to exploring and promoting Indian Classical Arts as dynamic and constantly evolving through exciting interdisciplinary projects and an emphasis on the creation of new work. Jiva is honored to have received support and recognition from Dance/NYC, Dance Advancement Fund, National Endowment for the Arts, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, and New York State Council on the Arts.
