We have been working at Jitihada Pre and Primary School for the past six weeks and have been having the best time teaching our students. However, we need your help! Jitihada School currently teaches K-6 and is looking to create a seventh grade class next year. The school's efforts are a response to the lacking public school system, for if the graduating sixth graders (who you can meet below!) want to continue their education after Jitihada then they must attend a private school. Unfortunately, the private schools here are quite expensive and many of the students cannot afford tuition. Jitihada currently does not have enough money to buy the textbooks and teaching materials in order to establish a seventh grade class; this is where your help comes in. The seventh grade curriculum in Tanzania calls for studies in Mathematics, Science, English, Kiswahili, Geography, History, and Civics. The total cost for every seventh grade student to receive a copy of each subject textbook totals around $750. However, we have set our goal at $1,000 in order to give Jitihada a month's worth of food.
The students eat breakfast and lunch at school and their meals typically consist of porridge or maize. Fortunately, with our help, Jitihada will have a larger food budget and will therefore be able to give the students more substantial meals, such as rice and beans. In the case that we raise more than $1,000 dollars, the additional money will be allocated to Jitihada's food budget.
It has been so fun and rewarding to work with such silly, motivated and eager-to-learn students. While we are here we want to propel them forward in their education as much as we can. We are hopeful that if we all work together then we can turn Jitihada's dream into a reality. Any and all donations, no matter the size, are greatly appreciated and help move us closer to reaching our goal.
