Jimmy the Whippet Needs Your Help!

Meet Jimmy. He is a 3 year old Whippet I rescued from my job at the Anti-Cruelty Society. He was surrendered to us after his previous owner did not want him anymore. I met Jimmy the first day he arrived, and immediately knew I had to bring him home with me. It was love at first sight. Since adopting Jimmy in May, I have learned that he is a very charismatic dog that loves to cuddle, run, and jump.
Unfortunately, these qualities got the best of Jimmy on a late Tuesday night in September. As I was letting him outside to use the bathroom, Jimmy jumped over an iron fence that lead to a patch of grass. On the jump back over, he missed the height of the fence and ended up impaling himself on the sharp spikes. After rushing him to the emergency vet, I learned that his quick maneuver had resulted in a bad tear through his chest muscles, tissues, and skin. He received emergency surgery, a JP drain, and a large quantity of stitches.
Fast forward a month, my mom and I have spent close to $5,000 in countless vet visits and surgeries to repair his open wound. Jimmy is required to visit the vet on an almost daily basis for bandage changes and wound cleaning. So far, he has received two surgeries; one to repair his muscles and tissues and the other to remove his necrotic skin.
Needless to say, this has been a very stressful month both financially and emotionally for my mom and I. Although I have been working 50+ hours a week between two jobs, it has become clear that this is not enough to cover the costs of Jimmy's vet bills and visits. After exhausting all other options, I have decided to reach out to friends and family for help. Any type of support is appreciated, whether it be monetary or not. As great as it is that Jimmy's health is slowly improving, we still have a long road ahead of us involving vet visits and treatment costs.
Jimmy is such a good boy who came to us already house trained and well mannered. Despite daily medications and vet visits, he has managed to retain these qualities. He was even named “Pet of the Month” at his vet through his hardships. Shortly after adopting Jimmy, I registered him as an emotional support dog. He has proven himself to love unconditionally, and has stuck by my side through many bad days.
