Jim Koonce ALS Medical Fund

As a friend of Jim Koonce, I do not want to write this story. I don't want these tears in my eyes, this lump in my throat. I want to go about my day and when I think about Jim, I want to know that what is in store for him is in the distant future....requiring years and maybe even decades to reach. The quicker than lightening agile athlete he once was will out run this beast called ALS. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Lou Gehrigs Disease.

In our spirit-filled world anything is possible. Miracles and healing are called forth, prayed for, demanded. But with almost warped speed, the venom of the beast is here, robbing Jim of his breath.

Jim. He'd rather be playing golf, appraising that house, wade fishing in the Gulf, having dinner with family. He'd rather be making someone - anyone - laugh, he'd rather be holding his new grandson or mowing the grass. But instead he is toe to toe with this horrible beast.

Praying, still praying, for complete healing and restoration....we have to acknowledge what has become his reality.

The video posted here was made by Jim in May.  Jim now requires his breathing machine at all times. For a brief moment or two, to shave or to put on a clean shirt he can do without it, but it causes great discomfort without the ability to inhale and exhale on his own.  Jim relies upon his state-of-the-art electronic chair for mobility and at this time he does have the use of his left arm. Please pray right now that he retains usage of his left arm, in Jesus name it is so. Jim requires around the clock attention and physical care.

He wants no pity. His sense of humor, his sarcastic wit, are functioning quite well. He is grounded, centered and fearless. He knows he is a beloved child of God.

What we want for Jim is to have whatever he needs to continue his life at home with Toni. Medical assistants, caregivers, groceries, devices, house-cleaning services, a driver for his special-equipped van, the unexpected. Whatever it is they need for Jim's care, he must have.
