Hi everyone!
COVID hits everyone different, and unfortunately it hit my dad pretty hard. Shortly after contracting the virus, his breathing took a turn for the worst and had to go to the hospital. They put him on oxygen and things seemed like he probably would not need a ventilator. A couple days later things ended up worsening and he was put on the ventilator. Shortly after that, the doctors said the vent would not be able to effectively help the heavily damaged lungs enough as Pneumonia set in and there was too much fluid. The decision was made for him to be hooked up to an ECMO machine, which is normally hard to get approved for. It pulls your blood out and oxygenates it for the lungs. This allows the ventilator to be turned down so that the lung damage can heal. This is the last stage of life support. As of right now he is stable, but is and has been sedated ever since being put on the ECMO machine. He will continue to be sedated and on these machines until the lungs can improve enough to start doing their job again. We do not anticipate my dad to be able to return to works for a few months at the very least. His current short term disability will cover only a portion of his salary, and I’ve made this fund to help my family cover their bills while he is out of work. Four of my brothers are still living at home and helping out where they can. My sisters and I and other family are working on getting these logistics straight, and any donations will be appreciated!
