Jim Marden Amputation Recovery Fund

My husband Jim has been a Type 1 Diabetic since 2002. He has worked a successful retail management career, enjoys watching  sports, fishing, camping with his family and friends, and exploring historical places and there old charm.

Unfortunately two years ago a diabetics worst nightmare appeared. Jim's feet started to be prone to foot ulcers. Even though he was partnering with his doctors, the ulcers caused Jim to have to leave his job to stay off of his feet to help with healing of his ulcers. With several of the ulcers healing, more just kept popping up in different spots. Last summer Jim lost two of his toes on his right foot because of these ulcers. The last six months he has been working to get his left foot fully healed knowing the battle on the right foot may be a losing one.

With life always putting bumps in the road, two weeks ago Jim got an infection in his left foot  which spread to the bones in his ankle, breaking it and spreading the infection throughout his foot and lower leg. It quickly escalated and last Thursday they had to do an emergency amputation on Jim's left foot from the mid calf down.

This surgery although life saving, is also life changing. Jim will be here in the hospital for another week following a second surgery then spend some time in rehab to learn how to live with his prosthetic and using a wheelchair before coming home.

The immediate challenge is finding a new home. Our current apartment is on the second floor and not wheelchair accessible. Because of this, Jim can't come home until we move to a new “Jim Friendly” home. With this new place, we will also have to get Jim all the new equipment to help him maneuver easily through life like a wheelchair, prosthetic, possibly a ramp to get to the apartment front door, and many other expenses that will be popping up that we don't know yet.

Living with a single income these last two years hasn't been easy with us and two teenagers in the house and any savings have been exhausted. With all the new medical expenses and bills that will be coming in, we are asking for any help that anyone can lend. We know everyone is on a tight budget and it isn't always easy to give. We appreciate any amount as this will help us and our family. We thank all our friends and family for their continued support and we love you all!!!
