My Life Cycle - Jim Copeland

During this pandemic people like me were locked in our own houses.

I am 95 years old and was fairly active till then.

With being on my own I sat around too much and as a result my limbs got weaker and I fell a few times. I needed medical attention and am still on painkillers and get around with the help of a rollator.

Now that I am living with my daughter Janice and her family I want to get back to full strength again.

I decided that I would like to do a cycle for charity which would help me but would also benefit others. I have accepted the challenge to raise funds for Charlene's Project because if Charlene was able to do what she did for children in Uganda then I could do my little bit. I have been able to begin to exercise to get started on my venture.

I plan to retrace my life journey from where I currently live back through all the places I have lived – Waringstown, Bangor, Dungannon, Killyman and eventually arriving in the town of my birth – Aughnacloy in County Tyrone. It is a big challenge for a 95 year old – covering over 180 km on an exercise bike, but I will do it and through it, if people donate, children will be helped in Uganda.

To those of you who don’t know what Charlene’s Project is about – Charlene was a little girl just like your own sister, daughter or granddaughter. But she was seriously ill with cystic fibrosis from birth.

She had a very difficult life because of this, but on a trip to Uganda with her family she thought the children there were worse off than she was.

Charlene died when was only 20 years old, but in the last year of her life she raised over £100, 000, to build a school for some of these children.

Her family of Dickie, Janice, David, Rebecca, Natalie, Bethany and Serena carried on her vision. Because of the pandemic a lot of the work has been on the back burner. At present they are trying to raise the money to build a secondary school in Uganda. I am asking if you would sponsor me on My Life Cycle to help me make this vision happen.
