Jill's Long Road Home

On August 1st, my 19 year old sister was walking with a friend when her world was changed forever. Jill suffered a massive stroke and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors tried to remove a clot in her head using a drug called TPA and a procedure to suck the clot out. Both failed and the clot remains in her head as the damage is already done to that side of the brain. Jill was transferred to BWH where surgeons then operated on her brain to get the swelling to subside. Despite a successful surgery, Jill is partially paralyzed and unable to speak. Her doctors are unable to determine when she will regain mobility and have explained that everyone’s recovery is different.
Jill has received world class care from professionals at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. They are the reason we remain optimistic for a full recovery. Although we don’t have an exact rehabilitation timeline, Jill will require extensive care over the coming months.
Given the scope of Jill’s challenges, we are humbly reaching out to our friends and community to ask for help. She will need months of rehabilitation, medical equipment, and personal care that we simply cannot afford.
Jill’s rehabilitation will support our ultimate goal of giving back her independence. Few things light up a room like Jill’s smile, and our family awaits the moment when she returns home.
Recognizing that we can do so much more together than we could ever accomplish alone, we are turning to friends and family to help us shoulder the financial burden. Any donation would be appreciated more than you could ever know.
