Malawi, Africa - 2013
Hello, my name is
Jillian Stickland, and I am a 15-year-old girl from Ontario.
We are so fortunate to live where we do and have everything we have. Because of this I often feel the urge to help those who are less fortunate than me. So how can one young girl like me make a difference? I'm sure there are many ways, but for me I have decided to take a jump on board with Tattered Tiara's Global Challenge trip this summer. On July 21st, 2013, I will leave my home for two weeks and take my services to the extremely impoverished country of Malawi, Africa.
Tattered Tiara's is an
organization that aims to encourage, empower and equip girls to change their
lives and influence the world. They help girls realize the value hidden
inside them. This Global Challenge trip to Malawi is more than just a
trip; it's a challenge to change my life and to make a difference in our world.
To learn about myself and develop a global perspective about what it's like to
be a girl in another country. It includes travelling overseas to another
country and volunteering with women and children.
To learn more about
this organization, please go to www.tatteredtiaras.com and select Global Challenge > Malawi.
I have a dream that my
generation will motivate and fix the broken world that we live in.
I believe that my young age is not a restriction, only a number.
When faced with an opportunity to challenge myself and grow as a person
and in my faith, I accept it - and that is why I am going to Malawi this summer. I am going to expand my worldview, and help out
children and women who do not live as privileged lives as we
do. My hope is that I will help shape these people's lives as much as
they will shape mine.
One of the biggest
obstacles I face in order to go on this trip is to raise the minimum
required amount of $3,500. I can't do this on my own and I need some
assistance. In order to obtain the funds for my trip, I will be very busy
fundraising, however I believe that with the help of God, family and friends, I
will be successful. The cost of this trip covers my flights, accommodations,
meals and transportation. Your donation towards my trip will not only
affect my own life, but the young lives of many other girls in Malawi.
If you are interested in contributing, please feel free to make a
donation today on this website.
My decision to go on this volunteer-based trip is one that will no doubt change me
forever. I am extremely excited for this opportunity, and of course a
little scared because I know that it will be extremely challenging for me,
however I am also interested in seeing what I will learn about myself through
this challenge.
If you are interested
in helping to send me to Africa, I would greatly appreciate any sized donation
you are willing to make. No matter how small or large, every penny counts
towards this cause.
I am very grateful for
any form of support you would be willing to give me. I also understand if
you are unable to give at this time, so please consider following our journey
this summer on the blog on the Tattered Tiara's website. If you are able
to give, thank you! however please note that unfortunately, tax receipts are
not available.
Thank you for visiting
this page, for your interest in my journey and for considering partnering with
me. Thank you for believing in me, that I can help to make a difference!
And PLEASE don't
forget to also FOLLOW ME at my blog! where I will be adding updates
regularly before and after my trip:
