Hey or anyong haseyo!
This is a story about a woman I love very much, every boy's hero, my mom.
Our story from the start had humble beginnings in the suburbs of South Korea. Single mother, small house, and hard work. Not an uncommon story perhaps, however we shared an uncommon bond. My fondest memories of her are when she came home from a long day with a smile and undeserved presents in hand. My worst memory is witnessing our house burn down in a fire and when my five year old self walked in to his mom explaining this was the last time we'd see each other for awhile.
Unfortunately life won that day. I ended up in a series of orphanages within the course of a year but one day found myself adopted into a loving family taken back to the U.S. My mother had not left on purpose, but just in hope that I would find the best life possible.
And I did.
Fast forward eighteen years later I am alive and well, just graduated univeristy, and chasing dreams.
Her life unfortunately did not turn out the same way..
She struggled in and out of multiple marriages after her departure often carrying the debt of her spouses and lost all her belongings again in 2011 to the Tsunami in Japan.
It has always been in my heart to find this lady once again and give back in every way I could and about three months ago we shared an emotional phone conversation for the first time that led to this trip.
So the day has come as I leave for Asia in my long awaited return. So I decided to sell my car for airplane tickets, and packed my things! To prove once again to this lady she is loved and she is enough. This is the story of a very brave woman, and the beginning of our new journey together. For my Umma.
If you would like to give we would be of the upmost gratitude as money would go towards the heroics of my mother. This money is simply to shower her with a tremendous blessing, to simply ease life's troubles. As well as save the money for her to one day move to KoreaTown here in America!!! Thanks again for reading and your support along our journey!
