One Year of Mental Health Treatment for Amanda

*100% of the funding goes to GVNG.org to pay the hospitals, health insurance, medical expenses, doctors and clinical fees. Lima Jevremovic, Mark Laita and the AURA team are donating their time and services to this cause and will not receive any of the funds raised from this campaign.

Amanda has been in treatment for 6 month and we have another six months to go to ensure she is stable and mitigate the risk of relapse! My husband and I have taken out loans and debt to ensure that she is not forced to leave the program due to financial  reasons, but we need your help to keep her going!

Prior to my work with Amanda, she had been brutally raped and severely assaulted daily as a young homeless women living on the streets of LA's infamous Skid Row. These attacks were so barbaric that Amanda had lost all of her front teeth. Her father, had tried to take her into treatment but she was denied care because the staff said she was "too far gone" and they offered him grief counselling instead. The reputative abuse and trauma and her inability to escape from the dangerous and toxic environment lead her to a destructive path, that like too many, she could not afford to escape.

Why does Skid Row exist? With Nowhere to Go, America's Mentally Ill Often End Up on the Streets. Even those with family support seeking treatment are faced with nationwide wide bed-shortages. A 600% increase in admissions to treatment facilities since the opioid epidemic erupted has translated to a shortage of psychiatric beds across America. Those who are lucky enough to get accepted into treatment have only 35-45 days of health insurance coverage before they are released prematurely, relapse and then wait-listed for readmission. Our mental healthcare system is broken; there is a 90% relapse rate after completing residential treatment.  Patient are sent home without door-to-door access to continued care. Many relapse via lethal overdose while waiting to get readmitted.

In 2017, Amanda began to experience some mental health struggles and began to self-medicate with marijuana to cope. This worsened her mental health and escalated her addiction to using other drugs. At the age of 20, Amanda was misdiagnosed with with Schizophrenia and Bipolar.  Se became heavily addicted to crack and became homeless as a result, with no way of getting mental health treatment because of the high costs and lack of health coverage in parallel to physical illness. Her father is a veteran, 60% disabled from service to America, and had no resources to help his daughter in the country he fought for. In fact, he currently lives in in VA housing on Skid Row, so she has no way of avoiding the environment when she visits her father. To prevent the change of relapse, Amanda has been doing Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET) through AURA with a mental health clinician on a virtual Skid Row. If it wasn't for this campaign, the high cost of treatment would have prevented Amanda from ever healing and she would still be homeless. Let's change that, not for only Amanda, but for everyone!

We are using Amanda's story as a campaign to petition for this type of care for everyone, without the high costs as a barrier to entry! Make sure you sign this petition to help us make the same treatment that Amanda is receiving accessible and available to everyone: https://www.change.org/p/donald-j-trump-mandate-technology-in-mental-health-treatment-insurance-coverage-for-long-term-care

Want to join me in making a difference? Any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me! We look forward in not only changing Amanda's life together, but sharing that journey and using these cases to revolutionize mental health treatment.

PROGRAM DETAILS:
The program consists of six tiers of treatment over a one year period to ensure that Amanda stays connected to her medical team as she steps down in levels of care and builds confidence and independence:
Step 1: Drug/Alcohol Detox
Step 2: Inpatient Care
Step 3: Residential Treatment
Step 4: Outpatient/Ambulatory Care while living in Sober Living (Amanda is getting ready to make this transition next month!)
Step 5: Sober Living while using AURA's Telehealth App and Continued Care Tools for Patient Tracking and doing Job Training (Amanda wants to be a Certified Medical Assistant [CMA])
Step 6: Graduation

COSTS:
Typically, this costs much more than $250,000 but because of the relationships I have in the industry, treatment centers are willing to discount costs for this cause. The funds are used to provide a case manager, secure insurance to offset some of the costs if possible, cover the costs of treatment that insurance refuses to cover, take care of living expenses, transportation, meals and job training to help create independence and reduce the risk of relapse.  We also focus heavily on family integration, building healthy relationships and work with the supportive networks in each case if available.

***Amanda has been into facilities that partner with AURA to secure the highest quality of care with clinicians using AURA--the most innovative tools to treat Mental/Behavioral Health and Substance Use Disorders (SUDs).
