Jill's House Intergenerational Preschool (JHIP) is a one-of-a-kind preschool in the state of Indiana, serving children of all abilities aged 6 weeks to 5 years old. We are a level 3 Paths to Quality provider, showing excellence in early childhood and practices. We are a small program operating since the fall of 2017. By 2018, we doubled our capacity to help our community after a large childcare center closed. At Jill’s House Intergenerational Preschool, we feel that our future has so much to learn from our past, and our past can find comfort in watching our future grow and flourish. We want to rekindle creativity, awe, and wonder in our residents, that only being with children can do. We strive to bring generations together to foster tolerance, acceptance, empathy, and a love for learning. Our program is the first of its kind in Bloomington, and we hope to give our community the opportunity to learn and grow through intergenerational, interpersonal, quality relationships.
Like so many others, JHIP has been affected financially by the COVID-19 pandemic. Upon starting our August 2020 school year, JHIP is at 50% enrollment. Our efforts during these several months have been to relieve financial burden our enrolled families and ensure financial security for our staff. We feel our mission is truly important and beneficial to the community, and want to remain a strong part of it. It deeply saddens us to have to suspend our intergenerational interactions, the core of who we are. The safety of all children, staff, families and residents in our building is of the upmost importance to us.
JHIP is a such a unique part of the community, and one that takes best practices in early childhood and development seriously. Our teachers are passionate about the work they do. We want to secure longevity for our unique program so we can continue to provide high quality care to all children. Your help and support is so appreciated, and will directly benefit children and families of the community to help us to continue to offer high quality, research-based, play-based care to our children and families.
