I've been sitting here staring at this blank screen for what seems like forever, at a loss for words for one of the hardest things we've ever had to do... ask for help.
As some of you are aware Jill and I are in the process of getting ready to start our first IUI cycle, since unfortunately the at home method didn’t work. We've been married for 2 ½ years, together for almost 10, and we knew it was going to take a lot of work to have kids. But what we didn’t plan for was the financial cost of needing fertility treatments in order for me to get pregnant.
We were so lucky to find the most generous, kind hearted man to be our sperm donor. He was even so kind as to not charge us for the sperm. Our original plan was to try insemination at home as it was the most cost-effective way, but that turned out to be unsuccessful. Turns out my body decided it no longer wants to menstruate on its own, so we were referred to an RE (reproductive endocrinologist) or better known as the fertility doctor.
I do not have a specific diagnosis as to why I am not menstruating but after having my first ultrasound it was found that I had multiple fibroids and polyps that were blocking the cervix and lining the uterus. I had to have a surgical procedure to have them removed. That was something we had definitely not financially planned for. On top of that part of the surgery procedure was not covered by my insurance. At home insemination is no longer an option. Our first option is a double IUI (interuterine insemination 2 days in a row) with Clomid (a medication that will make me ovulate). Doctor said we could try that a couple of times first and if that doesn’t take then we will have to try IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) which is a whole other set of extremely expensive procedures. So please pray for us that the IUI works.
Asking for money is not easy for us, Jill and I both work full time and I pick up temp jobs on Fridays and Saturdays to help us save up for these expensive procedures ahead. We have money saved but still not enough for the procedure. As prepared as we were, it just wasn't enough. If all you can offer are prayers we are incredibly thankful for that. We know God hears everyone! If you have only a dollar to spare we are grateful for that, it is still one dollar closer to our goal.
