Dear Family, Friends, Associates, Deaf & Interpreting Communities,
Sharon Mendes, a long-time sign language interpreter, is experiencing tough times. In the spring of this year, she was diagnosed with MDC, breast cancer, and faces a long journey of treatment
and recovery.
Sharon has served the Deaf and Deaf-Blind communities as a certified interpreter for many years. As a freelance interpreter, Sharon's financial income is determined by her ability to take interpreting
assignments.
Considering the difficult side effects of the chemotherapy treatments, recovery process, and breast reconstruction, Sharon will be unable to fulfill her previously scheduled interpreting commitments nor take on any new assignments. Based on Sharon's discussions with her doctors, it is estimated that treatments, recovery, and reconstruction will carry over into 2019. The extended medical challenges will leave Sharon unable to earn any income to meet her financial obligations.
Sharon is already feeling the financial strain and stress resulting from her loss of income. Making her mortgage payments and covering household expenses, aside from the mounting medical costs, is
increasingly pressing.
Sharon is a loving mother and gives so much of herself to others. She is a wonderful interpreter and a great friend. In her time of need, an opportunity to contribute to a GoFundMe campaign, is a perfect way to show her how much she is thought of and appreciated.
