Vavak Twin Warriors

Donation protected
Eathan and Crystina are true stewards of our Lord. The first year of their marriage they felt called to serve God in Kenya. Instead of asking for wedding gifts they funded their ministry to spread God's word in Africa. Last September they found out they were pregnant and were so excited to share the news with their loved ones. Shortly after they were able to share with the family that not only are the pregnant, but come early June 2016 they would be expecting twin boys.

Up until 20 weeks their pregnancy had no problems at all but on January 19th Baby A's amniotic sac ruptured and life as they knew it changed. She had what is medically called, a PPROM (preterm premature rupture of the membranes). In 90% of these cases moms go into labor within a week and the doctors gave them little to no hope. However, they would not give up on their babies Friends, family and even strangers around the world have been uniting in prayer for Crystina and Eathan and their boys. Miraculously, the twins have stayed healthy and had reached, according to the doctors, the age of viability. Baby A was a little warrior who kept fighting and producing amniotic fluid for far longer than could be expected. At 24 weeks, Crystina was admitted to the hospital because that is when doctors could conceive that their babies could survive. She has been there with her husband constantly by her side fighting to keep her babies growing and giving them a chance at life. During that time there were many scares and also many blessings. But at 28 2/7 weeks something happened and Crystina went into full on labor. The doctors couldn't stop the labor and felt that the babies had to be delivered. Later the doctors told us they think Baby B's placenta was starting to detach. Fortunately the C-section was successful but the moment they entered the world the battle went into full force. Baby B needed CPR for over a half hour and just when the doctor's were about to give up his heart started beating. Baby A started life breathing a little but shortly after had difficulties and had to be intubated. From there his little lungs (which may have had trouble developing due to the lack of amniotic fluid for 8 weeks) just could not work the way they are supposed to. His parents were called in and told that there was nothing more they could do. Crystina and Eathan did not believe this but they took the opportunity to hold their baby. Gideon (Baby A) was placed on Crystina skin to skin and for a short while his stats improved a little. The nurses were incredible bringing a bed into NICU so she could have this time and doing everything they could do to help them.

5 hours later Gideon just could not hold on any longer and Eathan, and then Crystina, heartbreakingly realized he was gone. It was the most devastating moment in their and all our lives.

In Eathan's word, "Today follows the most exciting, yet the most frustrating day of my life. I am celebrating the greatest joy a guy can experience, and at the same time feeling the worst pain I have ever known.

At 11:32 pm and 11:34 pm on March 17th, 2016 we welcomed into this world two beautiful boys, Gideon John Vavak and Elias James Vavak. Just 12 short hours later Gideon’s body failed him, and he got to experience eternity sooner than expected. His perfect little heart quietly stopped beating while in the loving embrace of his mother. I only rest because I know he is much better off in the hands of Jesus than he would ever be here on earth. "

So many of you have been united with Eathan and Crystina in praying for these boys. We ask that you continue to pray diligently for our sweet Elias James. He faces a battle ahead that we are praying fiercely he can overcome. Elias had such a tough start and faces a long journey ahead of him in NICU but his parents will be with him every step of the way.

You all have been asking how to help this beautiful family. Eathan and Crystina will be spending all their time continually fighting and praying side by side with their son. They have not asked for this, but our family knows the burdens ahead will be huge. With that there are many financial obligations that will come up. Should you feel called to financially support this family, your support will go toward the burial and funeral costs, towards gas, food and other daily costs.

Thank you for all your prayers and love!

With all our love,
