In late June, our dear Megan suffered a seizure while camping. What was originally attributed to heat and dehydration, was eventually diagnosed as a large brain tumour in the left side of her brain. On August 23rd Meg underwent brain surgery to remove as much of the tumour as possible and has since been recovering in the hospital, fighting hard to regain her memory, speech and movement, while waiting for biopsy results.

Earlier this month, our hearts broke, as at the age of 43, our friend, mother, wife, daughter, sister, auntie, and health care hero Megan Stuckert Dow was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), Grade 4 – an aggressive malignant type of brain cancer. She, her incredible husband Craig and two beautiful boys, Jackson and Simon, are now faced with a very daunting and uncertain future. Though Meg’s diagnosis is gut-wrenching, there are encouraging medical advancements and there are always outliers who beat the odds. It is our hope that with additional treatment and self-care Megan will be one of those miracle stories.

Meg has spent her life helping others. As a Recreation Therapist and Manager at Chinook Care Centre, Megan has worked tirelessly for over 20 years, making her patients’ health, happiness and mental peace her priority. Through her devoted work she has helped her residents reduce depression, stress and anxiety and recover basic physical and mental abilities as their caregiver.

As a cherished friend and family member, Meg has always been there, unconditionally, for anyone in need. So many of us have benefited from Meg’s love and support over the years, and now Meg needs your support.

For the next 6 weeks, Meg will undergo an invasive combination of radiation and chemotherapy, followed by another 6 months of chemotherapy. The impacts of such a devastating diagnosis and invasive treatment have been and will continue to be, mentally, physically and emotionally exhausting. So far, Meg has met these challenges in every way. She is currently recovering in hospital, fighting hard to regain full memory, speech and movement in order to be able to return home to be with Craig and the boys.

By raising funds, we hope to allow Megan to focus on getting stronger and to allow Craig and the boys to focus on helping Megan, without unneeded financial stress. Meg is an astonishingly strong woman and if we can make this fight a little bit easier, we’re going to do whatever we can and for her, Craig, and her boys’ futures. Any donations are greatly appreciated.

With love and a tremendous amount of hope,

Meg’s family, friends and colleagues
