I've recently married the love of my life, and brought her awesome special-needs boys into my life. Unfortunately, we're left constantly frustrated and stressed due to where we're living. It's too small, falling apart, and our land lord is nothing short of a slum lord.
When my wife and I moved into this place, it was just the two of us and her youngest son. Her other two sons had decided to try and live with their father. Since then, the other two boys moved back in with us. Couple that with frequent visits from my daughter, and the house gets cramped really fast. This cramped, constantly in each other’s faces atmosphere is rough on the oldest and youngest boys who have various forms of autism. The single bathroom is rough on the middle child who suffers from celiac and early stage Crohns disease.
To make matters worse, the place is in a horrible state of disrepair. When we moved in, they'd tightened all the bolts and tossed a fresh set of paint on everything. Looked great until normal day to day living started shaking out all the flaws. Cabinet doors that fall off, bad plumbing, AC that barely works, etc. The minor repairs we try to fix ourselves, but the other things we have to have the landlord involved, which brings me to the next problem.
Our landlord is a slum lord. She's left us with main line sewage seeping back into our home, effectively removing our ability to use the toilet (a major problem for our son with celiac). She's left us with no AC for days during the hottest week of the year. She brushed off complaints about harassment from our neighbors until they finally backed a car over our fence in a drunken rage. The fence is still not repaired. Now, she's started targeting our pets which she already approved and we've already paid the pet deposit for, saying that we need to resubmit the applications again and may be charged more. It's extortion, but it's also a clear sign that we need to get out ASAP.
Originally, we felt that worst-case scenario we could stay another year to finish saving up the money, but now it appears that isn't an option as our landlord is actively trying to cause us trouble now. We need to have money available by the first part of April to move out, and I just won't be able to save up enough in that time.
If you can, please help. I don't like having to ask for help like this, but this place is putting my family's well-being at risk, and I don't know what else to do. If you can't give, please share. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for your time!
