LUKE'S Hart Future

Donation protected
This is Luke. A 34 yr old chef from Brisbane Australia.Luke was a nervous car driver(white knuckles were prominent!) ,subsequently,Luke, rode motor bikes. He was a competent rider.Sadly,on Oct.22nd 2014,Luke clipped the back of a minibus, that had slowed for some,as yet, unknown reason .He was on his way home, after a busy day at Brisbane's South Bank. It was 11 pm. The way Luke fell was catastrophic. The ligaments from his brain stem  to the spine(at c1 & c2 level) were stretched off, consequently taking the vital nerves with them. Luckily,he had minimal fractures.                        Luke was in I.C.U. at Brisbane's Princess Alexandra   Hospital for weeks. He had stabilising steel rods  inserted in his neck. He could only blink. He was on life support. The care of the surgeons and nurses were surreal.I had never experienced this side of a hospital before. I could never, ever believe how much genuine attention and care he recieved.                                                                       He is still in P.A.Hospital(Jan.2015)and still having amazing care.As a father, seeing one of your children in this position, brings on overwhelming feelings of hopelessness, almost to the point of being breathless.I am nearly 70 and working fulltime in Adelaide,South Australia, nearly 2,000 kms from Brisbane. You want to do the best for your kids,no matter what. When Luke comes out of hospital he will need a lot of help, financially and emotionally. We cannot tell what mobility he will have. Currently he can move the fingers on his left hand. (he text me for the first time last week! i was so excited).Luke has all his cognitive functions and is now starting to talk. He is down to 50 kg.                                                                Unfortunately, when Luke left work that night,he did not go straight home,so there is no work cover for him.                                                                                                                 Dynel,is Luke's partner. She is amazing.A full time worker but visits Luke every night & weekend. She,and his beautiful 5 yr old daughter,Luna, are his inspiration to leave hospital. He is trying so hard to rehabilitate. It is so sad that Luke is trapped in his body. It really hit home last week, when i flew to see him again.and just before i left,i bumped into him, whilst strapped in his chair, and his right arm just flopped helplessly by his side. His prognosis is not good.                                            Everybody loved Luke. His work mates called him 'BATMAN' because he was always rescuing people,at severely busy times in a hectic kitchen.                                          It is now time to help him.                                                                                THANK YOU
