My name is Jessie.
A lot of you of course know me, but not everyone knows the part of my story that has revealed itself as of most recently.
I have an eating disorder.
Eating disorders affect so many men and women across the world, it is likely that we all know several people who have suffered, or are currently suffering with this illness.
I struggled to find helpful resources within Sudbury, where I was born and raised.
It took years of building up my assertiveness in order to tell my parents I needed to seek out help.
I moved to Guelph for several months to complete an inpatient program, and learned many useful skills to help me proceed in a healthy direction.
The thing with eating disorders, is that they do not end once you are out of the hospital. Being a mental illness, anorexia creates an internal struggle every day.
I am susceptible to relapse if I am not careful.
In order to continue on my healthy path, I must move forward with therapy frequently to keep ahead of my eating disorder.
The problem is the cost of therapy. A majority of care for eating disorders is in the private health sector, and I currently am not receiving benefits that would cover the cost of care.
As I am in early stages of recovery, I am seeking out for donations to make the transitional period of my recovery back into normal every day living as smooth and comfortable as possible.
In doing this, I would also like to raise awareness, in order to bring more resources to Sudbury for others suffering from eating disorders, who do not yet have the voice to speak out and express their struggles.
