In case you haven't read it, below is my support letter (:
I have the absolute pleasure of writing you to tell you that God has been moving in incredible ways in my life lately. In June of 2014, I am graduating with my Associate of Arts degree from Olympic College. After constant prayer and thought of what to do after graduation, I have decided to devote six months to a dream that I have had since I was 12 years old "“ to go to Africa and serve.
I have felt Him strongly calling me to follow Him to a program called Youth With A Mission. YWAM was founded by a man named Loren Cunningham in 1960 and has been mobilizing young people to spread the love of God to almost every country of the world. It is an international volunteer movement of Christians from many backgrounds, cultures and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the nations.
I have the opportunity to follow this call to a Discipleship Training School in Arua, Uganda (East Africa) from June 9 to December of 2014. I am joining a ministry that is passionate to see authentic communities centered on the presence of God raised up around the Earth. The DTS is split into two different phases - the first phase is called the lecture phase which involves an intense training process designed to develop my character and a deep intimacy with God. In the outreach phase I will travel into the field and neighboring countries to apply what I have learned to aiding communities.
Arua is in the extreme north west of Uganda. It sits amongst some of the most war torn nations of Africa. Northern Uganda has seen almost 25 years of brutal rebel activity by the notorious Lord's Resistance Army. To the north of Arua, southern Sudan has seen an incredible forty years of war and suffering. To the west DR Congo has had a vicious seven years of fighting. Although these facts may instill fear in some people, I have full faith that traveling to this beautiful country is going to result in amazing experiences and opportunities.
I am inviting you to go on this journey with me. I cannot do this alone! I have gotten to the place I am today by my amazing family and friends (you!) supporting me. I am asking for your prayers as I take this leap. As much as this will be an amazing experience, I know that it will be physically, emotionally, and spiritually stretching at times. Your well wishes and prayers would be a huge blessing.
In addition to needing prayer support, financial support is essential. The DTS is going to cost about $5,000 after schooling expenses and other factors such as airfare, travel, health insurance, etc.
Please don't feel obligated to give, but if you can, please prayerfully consider if God is leading you to do so. I know that by making my need known I am extending this opportunity to those who would like to go but for various reasons have been unable. Whether praying for me, giving to my need once, or committing to a monthly donation "“ I count myself so fortunate to have you partner with me.
The best way to support me is to send a check payable directly to me (2020 Marine Dr, Bremerton, WA 98312) or aiding me electronically.
It would be my pleasure to invite you to follow me on this journey through visiting my blog at http://snelljessica.tumblr.com/. You can also email me at [email redacted] for updates. Feel free to call if you have any questions, or just to chat! My number is [phone redacted].
I want to thank you in advance for any contribution you feel led to give me, financially or spiritually. Once again, I am so excited to be able to share this with you and can't thank you enough for the support and love you have given to me throughout my life, and now. I am truly blessed.
Love, Jessica Leanne Snell
