~No one should ever go broke because they're sick~
No parent or family should EVER have to choose between paying for adequate medical care for their child and paying for their mortgage, utilities, everyday expenses, etc.
With 2 major chronic medical diagnoses (epilepsy & scoliosis) have come many medical expenses that insurance doesn't cover (ie: physical therapy at $200/hr!, doctors/specialists not in network, prescriptions, time missed at work, travel expenses to specialists/hospitals in & out of the state).
Our medical/insurance system in this country is awful and it is just getting worse. Even with insurance, it doesn't cover enough.
Being a single mom, a 1 income household on an already tight budget, the mounting medical bills have become overwhelming - the medical bills have almost been as devastating as the illnesses.
Epilepsy & scoliosis have stolen so much from us, my daughter has done without for so long because of the medical bills so I'm finally ready to reach out and admit that I can't do it alone any longer - I should have reached out last April after the scoliosis diagnosis but was embarrassed because I thought I should be strong and try to handle it by myself and I was afraid of being judged.
But Jessica deserves a better life - she has a heart of gold and even with everything she deals with, she is always the first one to help her friends. She's the kid that will give someone a compliment just to make them smile because it looks like they are having a bad day. She has been forced to grow up faster than any child should be due to epilepsy & scoliosis and by me asking for help, I hope it will show her that it's ok to ask and that she doesn't have to do everything by herself because unfortunately the reality of it is that she will most likely always have to have someone helping her through life in some way or another.
