Jessica Loewer Accident Fund

As many of you may have heard, our sweet girl Jessica was involved in a very serious accident with her horse last Friday, March 23rd. 

While Jessica was riding, the horse threw her head back and Jessica “zigged when she should have zagged”.  Jessica was thrown forward as the mare’s head came back and Jessica’s face met the back of the mare’s head.  She sat stunned in the dirt.  Because of the blood coming from her face, she assumed her nose was broken.  RJ asked if she was alright enough for him to get the horse in the trailer and she said yes.  Sitting there in the dirt waiting for him, she started feeling around her mouth and quickly realized that she did not JUST have a broken nose.  Her front teeth were gone, her lower permanent retainer was broken off on one side and sticking back into her mouth making it difficult to relax and to communicate.  This was also the culprit for a puncture wound in her upper lip.  Her lower teeth were not feeling right either.  Keeping herself calm, she managed to get home with RJ to put the horses away and decide if she needed an emergency dentist or a hospital.  Luckily, they went to the ER where the massive severity of her injuries was determined. 

The impact of the horse’s head COMPLETELY shoved her two upper teeth up through her gum and basically into her nasal cavity area which caused a fracture in the upper mandible.  (that is the bone underneath your nose).  A third upper tooth was jammed sideways up into her gum in a completely different direction and broke off at the root.  When these teeth were all pushed upward, it also caused the cartilage in her nose to go up, narrowly escaping a rupture to her sinuses but did fracture the bridge of her nose.  All of Jessica’s lower teeth went entirely through her lower chin/lip and then were jammed back toward her ears.  When the injuries were assessed, she was sent to another hospital in Phoenix that specializes in oral surgery.  She was admitted to the hospital and surgery was performed 14 hours later on Saturday and surgery took two hours.   

The surgeon removed the top three teeth and performed a bone graph and put in a plate under her nose.  They reset her nose, inserted breathing tubes and completely packed her nose with gauze.  The laceration on her chin from the teeth left her with many stitches both inside and out in addition to the stitches in her upper gums from the bone.

Jessica saw an endodontist this week and the hope was that the 4 lower teeth in front would be saved and healthy.  It was determined that the lower 4 teeth are not okay and are showing signs of dying off.  She will be having a root canal on those 4 teeth this coming Wednesday……….and is not looking forward to it!

There are SEVERAL steps (surgeries and procedures) that Jess will have to endure for her upper teeth to eventually be permanently replaced, ultimately ending with pretty implants.

I have to say that Jessica’s grace in handling this situation coupled with her sense of humor and positive outlook is very impressive.  One of her biggest concerns with this GoFundMe idea was that people understand that she is BEYOND GRATEFUL that this situation did not end much worse.  She is thanking God that she had no head injury, no broken bones outside of her face and no internal injuries……….and her family and friends are so thankful too!  This could have been awful.  And while we are grateful for those blessings, the fact remains that Jessica has a LONG road ahead of her.  In the blink of an eye, doing what she loves, she is now facing multiple surgeries and an unknown amount of time off work in her recovery. 

Jessica has medical insurance.  HOWEVER, there is a $5,000 deductible before it kicks in and when it does start covering expenses, it will be only at 70%.  As you can imagine, these expenses are already adding up quickly in addition to the loss of work. 

These photos are graphic, but they show just a tinge of what she has been through and what she is facing going forward.  As you can imagine, solid food is not an option and won’t be for a while.  Breathing through the packing in her nose is challenging and uncomfortable.  The list goes on and on, but she is not complaining one bit. 

This young lady is a light in many lives and we want to do anything we can to ease this financial burden for her, so she can concentrate on her recovery.   Your donation to our fund in addition to your healing prayers would be very sincerely appreciated by everyone who loves her.
