Support for Jessica and little Reed

Donation protected

A lot of you know my longtime friend and drummer, Gary Porter, and his family. If you’ve seen me perform with my band, you’ve seen Gary on drums, and his wife Rhonda singing background vocals with me.

And you probably know their daughter, Jessica. Here is a photo of all three of them at one of our shows.

Only a couple of years ago Jessica married Hunter, the love of her life. Jessica and Hunter are expecting their first child in September.

So it breaks my heart to have to share their story with you…

In early April, Hunter was in a serious car accident. He was broken in so many places, and endured several surgeries. For a couple of weeks he was in constant pain, but was fully alert most of the time, was coherent and able to talk to Jessica, who stayed by his side day and night.

The doctors were hopeful, and Hunter was sent to rehab, to build up his strength so he could walk again. But the second day in rehab, there were complications, and he passed away...
This family was completely shattered.

Everyone who loved Hunter is trying to pick up the pieces and get through each day, each hour, each moment.

Jessica’s heart is broken, knowing that their son, Reed, will never know his dad.

Since they both were unable to work in April, the bills started piling up.

The grief consumes Jessica, and every day is a struggle.

The mortgage payments, utilities, insurance premiums, and medical bills all need to be paid. And the monthly grocery bill will increase when the baby comes. And Jessica will need ongoing care to ensure that she and the baby are healthy.

Jessica posted this on her facebook page on May 5th:
“I felt Reed move for the first time the morning of Hunter's funeral and he hasn't stopped moving since. He's my little blessing, my heart, my life. In the middle of this incredibly dark time, he's my little bit of light. I love him so much and can't wait to meet him.”

Little Reed will arrive sometime in September, and we want him to come into this world knowing that he was loved by his daddy, is loved by his entire family, and by people all over the world.

In my travels, people have been asking how they can help. There’s been talk about doing a benefit concert at some point. But for now I believe this is the best way to get their story out to all the people who've expressed concern, and who want to help.

I can’t heal a broken heart, but this GoFundMe page might bring a little bit of relief to my precious friends.

Any support is much appreciated.

Thank you.
