Jesse's Journey

Donation protected
On February 16, 2018, Jesse Anne Hunsaker was born to Joe & Aerial Hunsaker and her big sisters, Brooke and Piper.  Everything went great and everything checked out great with mom and baby.  So they went home 48 hrs later on Sunday, February 18, 2018.  By the following thursday, Jesse started having seizure like spasms.  They began to happen more fequently and for longer durations.  So at 4am Friday morning, Jesse's mommy and daddy loaded up the kids and took Jesse to the ER at Medical City Childrens hospital.  It was there that they discovered her Calcium was low.  That was the initial cause of the seizures.  Once they started to give her a calcium supplement, the seizures went away and she hasn't had one since.  So they ran more tests to determine what was causing the calcium to be so low.  They checked her other levels and determined her Albumin level was low as well.  Albumin is protein.  So that was contributing to the low calcium.

It was then that they diagnosed Jesse with Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome, which is a disease of the kidneys.  Jesse had to have daily Albumin infusions in order to keep the levels regular.  They also noticed her immune system was low so she gets an IVIG treatment once a week as well to bring up her immune system.  Jesse has underwent 3 different surgeries to have a pic line put in, and then a Broviac line (central line).

When Jesse and her family started this journey, they thought they had an insurance policy that would allow for them to make a short term disability claim for the time mommy (Aerial) is out of work since her company does not have a maternity plan.  They have since discovered that short term disability was not on the policy.  So thee have not had an income for her and they aren't sure when she will be able to work.  Because of Jesse's condition, mommy needs to be with her at the hospital and therefore can't work.  This means a two-income family with 3 little girls now has to try to figure out how to adjust to a one income family along with increased costs.  Daddy (Joe) visits daily and has to pay parking every day along with the cost of eating out in order to visit mommy and Jesse at lunch time.

Little Jesse and family have now been in the hospital for going on over 6 weeks and just learned that it's possible that Jesse will have to have one of her kidneys removed in order to try to slow down the loss of albumin.  This will mean more time at the hospital.  It also means that at about age 4 she will need a kidney transplant.

It is our goal to help raise money so that mommy and daddy's only worry is taking care of Jesse and not about the loss of income and the continued expenses that comes along with a hospital stay and not to mention there are two little girls that still need things.

Hopefully you can help out financially, however, if not, your thoughts are prayers alone would mean the world to this sweet family!

Sincerely,
The Friends of Joe, Aerial, Piper, Brooke and Jesse Hunsaker
