This is my beautiful son Jesse. He always makes everyone laugh. His smile lights up a room. He is loving and caring and the best big brother to all of his younger siblings.
Ten days ago I got the worst phone call of my life from my 19 year old daughter. Jesse had suffered a massive brain bleed and was on his way to the hospital in an ambulance. I live 6 hours away from Adelaide (where Jesse lives) with my younger 4 children, two sets of twins, two 15 and two 7.
I had to leave my children at home and take the longest and worst drive of my life, 6 hours to reach the hospital where my son was, not knowing what was going on.
When I finally got to the hospital, I got the awful news. Jesse had suffered a massive brain bleed, was in brain surgery and they had no idea what was going to happen or what the damage was.
My 19 year old daughter was the only one that was with him at the time, she saved his life, turned him on his side and called the ambulance. It was so hard for her but I am so proud.
They told me that it was a malformation in the veins in the back of Jesse's head, that the veins had ruptured. They did not know the extent of the damage.
He went through 6 hour brain surgery while we all waited. He got through that. Then a doctor told us he may never wake up, total devestation. Jesse is only 25 years old, my first baby, I just thought no he can't go anywhere it's not his time.
Over the next week we all visited Jesse in ICU at the hospital, praying and crying and playing this horrible waiting game. They had him in an induced coma, they did not know the extent of the damage.
On Wednesday this week another doctor had a talk to us, said that they had taken off the sedation, that Jesse was not responding how they wanted him to, and he was not breathing on his own for very long.
We were all devestated again. But I refuse to believe the doctor, my son will get better I told him.
The next day (Thursday) Jesse opened his eyes, he was responding a little and squeezing the nurses hands on command, everyone was so happy.
He was looking at us, still unable to move, still with tubes everywhere but he knew who we were. Jesse's partner came in and said hello, and Jesse's eyes frowned up and his lip came out and he cried... It was the most beautiful thing to see.
The reason I am asking for help, is I am a single mother with 6 children, as I said 4 still living at home. I can't leave my son here, I just can't. We live 6 hours away and I have no idea how I am going to move to Adelaide or afford anything. The parking alone at the hospital to visit Jesse is ridiculous.
We are going to need things for Jesse when and if he can ever come home. They still don't know what the outcome of this is, only time will tell, they do not know the extent of the damage, only time will tell. In the meantime I can't leave my son. We are currently sleeping on the floor at my son and daughers small flat in Glenelg and trying to make ends meet while trying to be with Jesse as much as we can. His lease at this flat runs out in a month and then I don't know what we will do. I have to enroll my smaller children in a school down here and I am so lost as to how I can do this. My brain can only think about my baby, and how we all need him back, he is so wonderful and strong and young... Please help in anyway you can, nothing is to small, and please keep my baby in your prayers.
