Jerry Blackmore’s Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
If you’ve ever met my dad, Jerry Blackmore, you know he is a simple man. He works hard and doesn’t ask for much in return. A body man/mechanic by trade, he recently retired from the industry and finally had the time to tinker on his own projects. Dad’s health started to become worrisome a few months ago when he began to feel dizzy and experience double vision. He was having issues regulating his blood pressure, and was finally put on medicine to help control it.

On December 5th, 2018, Dad was admitted to the hospital with stroke-like symptoms. After many tests, an MRI revealed what we were least expecting, a tumor on his brain. The symptoms he was experiencing were from the tumor, located in the parietal lobe of his brain, which made it difficult for Dad to do complex tasks and body movements. Further scans revealed the cause of the brain tumor, which was a large mass in one of his lungs.  We aren’t sure how long the cancer has gone undetected, but if it wasn’t for the tumor in his brain, we might never have known anything was wrong.

During the weeks following, Dad had many issues walking, thinking clearly, and remembering simple things. He underwent a heavy dose of steroids to help control the swelling around the tumor in his brain, and in return, help bring back his normal quality-of-life functions.

The first course of action action will be radiation of the brain and lung, followed by intense chemotherapy. He is currently working with a physical therapist and occupational therapist to help him return to “normal” (which if you know dad, he says he wasn’t ever normal to begin with!)

Both of my parents are retired, with a limited income. Dad has health insurance, but the coverage is minimal, with high deductibles and out-of-pocket costs. Our family has experienced a lot of loss recently, and my parents are still paying off the costs of my grandmother’s funeral. I know they are both too humble to ask for help, but they truly need it right now. If you feel it in your heart to contribute to my dad’s fight against cancer, please know that we are all incredibly grateful. If you cannot donate, please continue to pray for my dad’s healing and wisdom for his medical team. My parents mean the world to me, and I know this will help ease the worry and concern they are currently facing.
