The reason for this campaign is to try and help Jerry with some of the exspenses for his 2nd Kidney transplant. Medicare will cover some of it but not anywhere close to all of it this time around and as he lives on limited income the stress and worry of being able to cover all the exspenses is very frightening as this transplant is necessary and must be done. Just 1 medication alone will be $1,000 a month out of pocket (Valganciclovir) an antiviral medication that he will have to have. That is just one of many medications that he will have to pay for out of pocket. He will also have the expense of staying in Pittsburgh for at least 2 weeks after he is discharged from the hospital to be able to go to many many doctor appointments. This whole process will be a very lengthy and very expensive.
As I said earlier this will be his 2nd transplant. Back in 2005 he had a kidney and pancreas transplant and after 10 years the kidney started to fail. Its been used up. So he has been on dialysis for the last almost 4 years. This means he is connected to a machine for 9 hours straight a night. To have this transplant is a must! To be able to live and feel somewhat normal again and to be able to live out the remainder of his days doing what he loves to do is what we pray for!
Jerry is not one to ask for help and he is a very private person but if he can't show to his transplant social worker that he will be able to pay for all the medications and all the other exspenses that will come along than they wont keep him on the list.
