Jerin's surgery to save his leg

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Tammy Swanson and I am asking you to help us save my son, Jerin's, leg.

In 2004 my two sons were exploring and playing in a rocky canyon near our home in the Texas Panhandle, just like two teenagers might do.   Dirt gave way, rocks fell, and in the blink of the eye Jerin's life was changed forever.

In short, several rocks, including a 400 pound boulder fell on Jerin and broke both of his legs.  One leg was broken in 14 places.  Jerin's big brother tried to free him, and was barely able to get Jerin's leg out from under the rock.  He ran to a neighbor's house and had to break in to get to a phone to call the paramedics.  When Jerin was found by his rescuers he had placed a tourniquet on his own leg to stop the bleeding.  Without him doing that, we would have lost him.     You can read the actual story by clicking this LINK from the Amarillo Globe News dated 12/1/2004, and can see the actual story at the end of this article.

Jerin underwent surgery to repair both legs, and was in intensive care for 5 days.  Throughout the years since the accident Jerin has undergone additional surgeries, battled infections and faced the real threat of losing his leg on several occasions.  Despite all the struggles Jerin has faced, he has maintained a full-time job, kept a positive attitude and recently married the love of his life.

Jerin's fight for the last 13 years to keep his leg has led us to today.  Jerin is once again fighting a serious infection that is not only threatening his leg, but possibly his life if something isn't done soon.  Our goal is to continue to fight to save his leg and replace the hardware that has held the leg together all of these years.   We can't do this without help, and that is why I've starting this gofundme campaign, and it is why I am asking you to help us.  I'm asking you to join Jerin's fight with us by contributing to our campaign to keep Jerin's leg.

I'm sure that you're wondering how the money will be spent.  Currently, Jerin does not have insurance however we hope that he will after 1/1/18.  Our plan is for him to have his surgery after his insurance kicks in, if he is able to wait that long.

Part of the money, I believe between $7,000 and $8,000, will be required for the deductible portion of the operation.  I'm sure that there will
be additional money needed for medicines and other treatments that are not covered.  This is the best-case scenario.  It is quite possible that the leg will be beyond repair, which will lead to amputation, prosthetics, etc.  We're choosing to not think about that possibility at this time.

Lastly, Jerin will be out of work for many weeks; maybe even months.  We will use the remaining money for Jerin's other expenses like his car payment and insurance premiums.

It isn't easy for me to ask for your help, but that's exactly what I'm doing.  Imagine for a moment that your two teenage boys were playing together, an accident occurs, and you are faced with the mental, physical, and financial struggles that we've faced for all of these years.

Imagine watching your son fight through surgeries, constant pain, and the never-ending threat of losing his leg.   I'm a hard-working mother who doesn't have much.  There is no way that we can afford this by ourselves, so I'm asking you to join Jerin's team and help us save his leg.  Please donate whatever you can.

Thank you so much,
Tammy Swanson
