COVID-19 RECOVERY FUND FOR JERICO RIOJAS
Our Friend, Jerico, is a hard-working Long Haul Trucker, dedicated husband, loving father, and beloved friend. He has a gentle soul and is always willing to lend a hand or take a moment to listen to others' problems or tell a joke to lift the mood. He has always willingly helped others in their time of need.
Jerico contracted COVID-19 in early June; by June 15th, he was struggling to breathe. When he went to the emergency room, they informed his wife that his kidneys were failing and that he need to be placed on a ventilator and medically induced coma to have any hope of survival. His beloved wife, Christina, could not be by his side. Rather than hold his hand and offer a comforting word, she had to sit just outside his window and watch him everyday praying for his recovery.
On July 3, Jerico was moved to a long term facility. His prognosis was grim after so many days on a ventilator. Christina continued to sit outside, watching him through the window, praying for him, and trying to talk to him through the glass and hoping to help heal him.
On July 6, the doctors decided to remove the ventilator to see if he could breathe on his own. Fortunately, he did, so they placed him on a CPAP machine to aid him. Christina sat again outside his window, unable to touch him or hold his hand, and continued to pray for his recovery.
On July 8th, Jerico's birthday, he was able to breathe on his own. Christina, still unable to touch him or hold his hand, was finally able to speak with him and he responded back for the first time. Jerico has since tested negative for COVID-19 and now starts his long journey to recover from the damage this horrible virus causes. Doctors expect that Jerico will have to undergo at least 3 months of rehabilitation to be able to walk again and regain full function of his limbs and shouldn't expect to return to work for 3-6 months.
NOW HE NEEDS OUR HELP:
Jerico and Christina have exhausted their savings just to pay their bills and now face months of rehabilitation. They are facing huge medical bills and still need to continue to pay for their home and other bills.
