Jeri Eggett is the definition of a pillar in the community. As a firefighter and paramedic, it is my job to help and serve the community. I can say with great confidence that I will never have the impact on a community, neighborhood, families or individuals that Jeri has had and will continue to have. To support her family, Jeri teaches preschool and swimming lessons. For over 30 years she has helped to raise the village so-to-speak with her efforts – and if you’ve had your kids in lesson with her you know how good she is and how little she has charged for her expertise. I will be forever grateful to Jeri for the confidence my kids have around water and for their ability to stay safe while in the water.
As Jeri began to prepare her pool, this year, for another season of swimming lessons, she found a leak. It was most likely caused by the earthquake earlier this year. Professionals have come to assess the pool and have told her it is beyond repair and must be replaced. She has gotten bids for the replacement and they are all well out of reach for her. We are hoping to get $60,000 for the pool replacement. This might require some additional labor, that we will also have to plan for, so anything above our goal will be well used.
As a community, we owe this always-giving mother a pool. Without our assistance, her ability to influence our children will be diminished. Jeri has a no-nonsense approach that is desperately needed these days. Combine that with her love for people (and our kids) and you get the kind of person you want your kids to learn from. If we get the word out we should be able to raise the money for her pool replacement. And, if we raise a little extra, we could help Jeri improve and update her garage used as her preschool. If any pool people read this or if anybody has connections with a pool professional this could be a great time and reason to call in a favor. :-)
