Jeremy's Fight Against Osteosarcoma

Jeremy received devastating news that began his long, hard battle against Osteosarcoma (skull based). Jeremy went in to have a CT scan done due to his eye being swollen and a large knot on his forehead and the next morning they got results back that sent them to the doctor immediately. The Doctor reviewed the scans and told them the news no one wants to hear. They informed him that he had bone cancer, not knowing the type at that time. Jeremy was direct admitted and a few days later had a craniotomy done to remove the tumor that was pressing against his eye, causing vision loss and swelling. The surgery went GREAT! The neurosurgeon was confident that he removed all of the tumor. Jeremy then stayed at the hospital in ICU to recover, his recovery was tough, but he got through it! The pathology report came back that the malignant tumor was indeed Osteosarcoma. Jeremy then traveled to OSU to The James Sarcoma Program in hopes of finding out more answers that could better help his fight against this awful disease. After Jeremy spoke with the oncologist at OSU and they approved for his treatments to begin at Cabell where he could be closer to his wife and two little boys. Jeremy then went into another surgery to have his port placed so that his treatments could start. That surgery went as to be expected! Jeremy’s chemo treatments have started and he will be admitted to the hospital for 3-4 days every round. After his first round of chemo Jeremy went for a follow up visit to his oncologist at Cabell and the oncologist was rather worried that the fluid buildup in his head had not gone away. Jeremy’s neurosurgeon at Cabell then seen him and made a call to a neurosurgeon at OSU who immediately told them to travel to OSU to see him. They had all intentions on going to OSU to have an emergency surgery that night, but due to Jeremy’s counts being low from the chemo and the leaking of the spinal fluid, they decided to start him on antibiotics and let them run for 3 days before his next surgery to prevent infection and possible meningitis. They decided to re do the craniotomy instead of just going through the nose as the surgery to repair the leak was going to be much more intensive than originally thought. Jeremy has a long road ahead of him. He will be travelling back and forth from West Virginia to OSU for scans and visits to his neurosurgeon and oncologist. He will continue to do his chemo treatments at Cabell as well. We are asking everyone to say a prayer for Jeremy, Tasha and their two boys. This has not been easy on any of them. We are hoping that by starting this fund we can help them with travel expenses, hospital stays and day to day expenses.
