Jeremy and Vennessa came home Super Bowl Sunday night to the house they were renting in New Kensington, PA and noticed flames through the windows.  Jeremy rushed in to try to save their pets, but the open door caused a backdraft that dramatically accelerated the flames in the 80 year old house.  It was then all he could do to get out of the house alive.  He rushed to the stairs to escape the intense heat, tripped and fell, and eventually was able to get to the 2nd floor.  He then climbed out through the bathroom window and jumped to the ground from the roof to safety.

Jeremy described the heat as being so intense he could feel his skin melting.  He was taken to the burn unit at UMPC Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh where he is being treated for burns to his face and 2nd and 3rd degree burns to his hands. He will undergo multiple surgeries over the course of an expected month or so long stay there.

.....

Jeremy and Vennessa did not have renter's insurance so, except for their car, they have literally lost everything they owned.  He is awaiting confirmation that assistance from the government will cover at least part of his hospital bills.  As a carpenter, he has had difficulty finding enough work to support himself. the last few years.

Many have asked how they can help.

First and foremost, please pray for them for spiritual, mental, and physical health and recovery.

Secondly, they need money for bills and living expenses.  The hospital bills are sure to be staggering (with or without government assistance). Jeremy is the primary bread-winner and there will likely be little income for the foreseeable future.  They also will need clothes and furniture.

Thirdly, once Jeremy is out of the hospital he and Vennessa will be looking to re-establish a residence and will be starting from scratch. As time progresses and more is known, the goal is to update this posting to keep those who want to help informed.
