I’m not going to sugarcoat any of this. As some of you know, but most of you don’t, JJ suffered a sudden cardiac arrest due to ventricular defibrillation early Thursday morning while he was asleep. AKA, at 31 years old, JJ, most likely the healthiest friend we all have, had a massive heart attack. His wife Amber gave him CPR for 10 minutes until EMS arrived to give him a chance at survival.
Once EMS arrived, they administered 7 electric shocks to his chest on his apartment floor (in front of his children) in order to give him the best chance at life on his way to the hospital. Upon arrival, for the next 38 hours, he was in a medically induced coma. Somehow, some way, he woke up and started communicating with Amber and his father & brother who flew in to be by his side preparing for the worst scenario. They were then granted the best.
The miracle news is that JJ survived and while not yet back to normal, he’s on his way. They’re going to implant an ICD into his chest just in case his heart acts irregularly again and it will administer a shock to get it back in rhythm preventing this from happening again.
The unfortunate truth is that JJ is going to be out of work for a little bit, which we all can understand. And that’s fine. The issue that arises is that he was preparing to move back to Colorado as of yesterday, 1/26/19. Literally the UHaul was rented for the journey. And while he’s already hired by his new company in CO, at this point he was technically out of work. I’m not exactly sure what this means for his insurance throughout this terrible event. As you can imagine, these bills won't be cheap. Average ICU costs push over $10k per day.
Regardless of that, he’s the father of a 6-month-old daughter and nearly 2-year-old son. And I think his family needs our help. Let’s all do what we can to try and make this event in his life as positive as possible.
I’m asking that anyone can help out however they can. This cannot be overstated: without Amber, JJ would have died (100%) and his children would have grown up without a father. We have the chance to make this terrible time in their life a little bit more bearable. Let’s step up.
