Jeremiah Brain Tumor Recovery Fund

Meet Jeremiah, a four-year-old from East New York in Brooklyn, NY who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. Jeremiah is a music loving, curious and sweet child who was attending a Head Start program at a preschool in East New York up until last week when his family received the results from a concerning CAT scan at New York- Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

Over the last 6 months, Jeremiah’s mother and teachers had noticed that he seemed to be struggling physically, was often sick and missed a lot of school days; he was falling and tripping, frequently vomiting and recently started having seizures. Jeremiah’s mother, Natasha, had a hunch that something was just not right. After seeing multiple doctors who attempted to reassure the family that what they were seeing in Jeremiah were things he could just “grow out of,” she decided to have him see a specialist. The doctors at NY Presbyterian were immediately concerned, completed the CAT scan and Jeremiah was transferred to New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center. The results of the scan found multiple tumors on Jeremiah’s brain and an immense amount of swelling in his skull.

If it weren’t for Natasha’s motherly instincts and knowing her child, Jeremiah may not have received the care he needed. Unfortunately, due to the severity of her son’s condition, Natasha had to stop working to take care of Jeremiah and be at the hospital with him. While Natasha has been in the hospital with Jeremiah, her 20-year-old son has been staying home to take care of Jeremiah’s other siblings.

At this point, Jeremiah has endured at least three MRI’s, multiple CAT scans and a traumatic brain surgery to reduce the swelling on his brain but there is still a long road to recovery ahead of him and his family is currently without health insurance and needs support. Jeremiah is one of five children at home, currently being supported in a single parent household. We have made the goal for fundraising to be $60,000, however, with the type of medical care Jeremiah received in the hospital and will need to continue receiving at home, the funds will likely exceed this goal.

Jeremiah loves play dough, music, Spiderman and Paw Patrol. Jeremiah misses being in school with his friends and teachers and the doctors’ hope is that he will be able to go back to school, at least part-time, at some point this year depending on his recovery.
If you are able to donate any amount to support this family in their time of crisis, it would mean the world to them, and the greater East New York Community. Donations will be utilized to pay for medical bills, housing and food for the family.
