Jens, Tash, Eve and Hanno have lost their home and everything inside it.
At 2:30 in the morning on New Year’s Eve, as the incredibly hot and fast Badja fire approached, the family were forced to flee their home in Quaama. They only had time to pack the bare essentials for the next few days.
Evacuated to Bermagui along with thousands of others, the next day they were told that they had lost their house and everything inside. Unfortunately, they weren't insured for the loss of all their belongings. Jens, who is self-employed, has lost his work truck and work tools.
At the moment they are staying in a motel and are not sure what the next steps are.
Everything they have after building a life together is gone. No children’s toys, Tash’s thousands of books, Jens’ cello, double bass, piano and mandolin gone. Eve and Hanno’s cargo bike is gone.
Before leaving Jens ran back into the house to grab Eve’s new school uniform. She was very excited about starting school for the first time in a few weeks. Sadly, the school in Quaama looks like it has been destroyed too. (Update: reports are coming back that the school will probably be okay - which is fantastic news!)
We would really like to help Jens and Tash to be able to get back on their feet.
Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated.
I am Jens’ younger brother and I have set this up so we can all help Jens, Tash, Eve and Hanno recover from this disaster. All money gathered will go be withdrawn by Tash and Jens and go towards getting them back on their feet. This includes getting Jens’ bush regeneration business back up running, with a car and tools. Setting up a new home when it is safe to return, by replacing items lost in the fire such as white goods, furniture, kitchenware, and getting clothes for themselves and the kids.
