I know so many people that have been affected by cancer and now I am saddened to write that my sister, Jenny Ignacek Mitchell has been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. She is the wife to Derrick Mitchell and the mom to a beautiful little girl, Piper. Jenny is the most thoughtful person I know. I have a 3 year daughter who absolutely adores her Aunt Jenny and wants her cousin Piper to come play with her everyday.
As I am creating this gofundme account, my daughter is sitting next to me and I am thinking, " Every mom should be able to watch her children grow up." Jenny is truly in the fight for her life, but she will not have to fight alone. Jenny has a strong support system filled with friends and family that are ready to roll up their sleeves and help her kick this cancer's butt!!!
This journey started off as a routine outpatient procedure to bring relief from a fibroid tumor. The initial plan was to remove the fibroid via a laparoscopic myomectomy. Upon doing this procedure, it was discovered that there was a large ovarian abscess that was significantly infected. As a result, Jenny's left ovary and fallopian tube was removed. The doctor did a biopsy and that is how it was discovered that Jenny had ovarian cancer. The stage of the cancer is currently unknown (Jenny will hopefully find out next week), but the recommended treatment is a complete hysterectomy and Chemotherapy.
As I'm sure everyone knows, this type of treatment is very expensive. Thankfully Jenny was able to obtain insurance through the Affordable Care Act; however, out of pocket costs are very high. In order to receive her initial outpatient procedure, Jenny had to pay $7,000 out of pocket. Jenny works as a Medical Assistant at a physician's office and although she loves where she works and her colleagues, she will not get paid for much of the time she will miss during her treatment.
Jenny needs your help so that she can get the proper treatment and spend all her energy fighting cancer and not worry about how to pay the medical bills. Any assistance or donation is greatly appreciated! I will continue to keep everyone updated throughout this journey.
