Please help Jennifer

Hello to all our family and friends.

We are reaching out to ask you to help us lend a hand to the Chess and Jennifer Johnson family. Jennifer has struggled with generalized epilepsy since she was about 16 years old. Jennifer has to travel back and forth from La Sal, UT to Scottsdale, AZ frequently as she is a patient at the Mayo Clinic for her epilepsy. Her neurologist and neurosurgeon have determined that the only option she has left to reduce her seizure activity is to have deep brain stimulation surgery. They will implant electrodes in her brain and then run wires down to a battery pack near her right collarbone. The neurologists will then program the electrodes to set frequency in an attempt to divert her brain from seizing. This will require two surgeries and a three week stay in Arizona.

Over the years Jennifer’s tonic clonic seizures have increased in severity, resulting in her currently having 2-3 major seizures within a 4-6 hour time frame, which results in hospitalization. She has had a vagus nerve stimulator implanted, has been in and out of the epilepsy monitoring unit numerous times, and is currently on 4 different anti-seizure medications. Jennifer’s epilepsy has progressed to medication resistant, making it even harder to treat, leaving surgery as her only option left.
