We have surpassed our initial goal! Jennifer is back in school. Thank you to all who have donated!
We know that Jennifer and Dorien's story has touched so many. That's why are expanding the campaign to cover expenses Jennifer has related to Dorien's care. In the coming months, Jennifer will be traveling regularly to visit Dorien in Arkansas and bringing him to doctor's visits in Nashville. A portion of Dorien's healthcare is not covered by insurance. We are continuing the campaign in hopes of fundraising for these transportation and medical costs.

Jennifer has lived through more than most of us can imagine.
In April of 2013, her teenage son Dorien was hit by a train. Though he was expected to die, he has survived. Through Jennifer’s tireless advocacy, Dorien is now medically stable, receiving the rehabilitative care he needs, and going to school. "Dorien is a walking miracle," Jennifer says. Because of her efforts to get Dorien the care he needs, Jennifer was named a Mother of the Year for 2014 by the Tennessee Justice Center. You can learn more about Jennifer’s care for Dorien here.
Now, Jennifer wants to return to her studies. Jennifer was pursuing Master of Divinity and Master of Liberal Arts and Sciences degree at Vanderbilt University at the time of Dorien’s accident. She paused her studies to care for Dorien, but now that he is stable, Jennifer wants to take one class this fall. She hopes to teach, though with all that has happened to her family, she thinks she might also become an advocate or chaplain for children facing health crises and their families.
Jennifer has a scholarship that covers some, but not all, of her costs. Jennifer needs just over $2,000 to for tuition, books, fees, and a parking pass. That’s where we can step in. We believe that a lack of $2,140 should not keep Jennifer from pursuing her dreams. We believe in Jennifer’s goal of teaching and advocating for others. We know that if we give what we can, we can reach this goal easily.
