My name is Jennifer Ramos and I am a resident of south Austin, Texas. I am currently the female National Delegate in Senate District 21 in favor of Senator Bernie Sanders.
What does this mean?
A delegate is an individual who represents their specific geographical area (precinct, county, senatorial district, state, etc.) to be allocated and account for their respective candidate. I will be a delegate for SD 21 for the third time at the Texas Democratic State Convention on June 16th and have submitted to serve as a National Delegate to represent SD 21 and the state of Texas for Bernie Sanders at the Democratic National Convention. Delegates are responsible for electing the Democratic nominee to run for President
Why Bernie?
Please note: I'm not anti-Hillary. I eventually chose Bernie Sanders based on educating myself on the two strongest candidates for the Democratic party and the presidency. Having watched debates, speeches, looking into their civic involvement and the candidates' respective platform points, it was no question that I agreed with Bernie on everything. I believe he is our best chance on continuing some of the great progress we've made under President Obama. His humble nature and ability to see things at a practical level are what we need at the White House. The answer isn't electing someone who isn't a politician. It's electing someone who sees the bigger picture.
Why support me?
The DNC will be taking place July 25-28th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Delegates are responsible for their entire trip and cannot ask candidates or the Democratic Party to fund their trip. Currently, I work as a waitress for Chili's Grill and Bar and as amazing as an opportunity as this would be, I need as much help as I can to make it there. I currently reside in Travis county where Bernie Sanders won the popular vote but mathematically evened out by delegates. Every delegate in his favor counts!
I have resided in SD 21 the majority of my life (having grown up in Laredo and attended college there) and have been an incredibly active Democrat since before I could legally vote.
I am currently a member of the Austin Young Democrats, co-chair of the Travis County Youth Caucus, and have served as a delegate at the state level the last three conventions. As a Latina under the age of 36, I would also be representing a traditionally underrepresented constituency at the national level.
