Jen Callahan Stroke & Brain Surgery

POST SURGERY UPDATE:
We can share that Jen was admitted today for the second round of brain surgery. We just heard from family at the hospital and can confirm the surgery is over and everything went as well as could be expected. See below for a more detailed update....

Please not we learned this month that Jen would face ANOTHER ROUND of surgery this time on the RIGHT SIDE of her brain. This will be for the same type of vascular issue related to “Moya Moya” disease as she had on the left side last year. The surgery was to help reduce the possibility of a devastating stroke.

This campaign is in support of our beloved sister, daughter, family member and friend, Jennifer Callahan, as she recovers from emergency surgery after recently suffering a stroke on Monday January 29th and to remove several blockages of blood vessels that are restricting the flow of oxygen to her brain.

In recent weeks, Jennifer experienced cognitive issues including an inability to speak or write which led her to a hospital in Gainesville for a diagnosis that confirmed the problem.

Jennifer has faced many personal and medical challenges in her life. She was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at 7 years old and has struggled with the effects of the disease for almost four decades. She has also faced orthopedic and dental problems related to an accident when she was hit by a delivery truck while walking outside her job some years ago. She has been unable to work in recent years and is dependent on a fixed income.

Jennifer has always maintained a positive outlook and is a kind and generous woman. Her faith in God is strong and she believes in the power of prayer to help her through life's challenges. She remembers everyone's special life milestones even if it is with just a small note or personal gift. Jennifer ends every phone call with "I love you" and she loves animals as much as people. She found a true life partner in her Miniature Dachshund "Winston" who is at her side her side at all times.

Jen is unable to read or type clearly at the moment. She has asked that you all keep her in her prayers and that we all refrain from sending flowers of other items to the hospital. We will provide an address for cards and notes at a later date.

Any donations at all would be greatly appreciated as we help her through this challenging time in her life. I will be managing her financial affairs as her oldest sibling during her long recovery.

Our goal is based on expected costs over a one year period including transportation (she won't drive for some time), household accomodations and medical expenses while she recovers.

We thank all of you for your prayers, good wishes and donations in response to this crisis.

Sincerely,
The Callahan Family
